The Promise Resource Center (PRC) is a non-profit organization looking to help provide a brighter future for children by educating and supporting their parents and caregivers. PRC has been providing parents, grandparents, foster parents and other child care providers with training and resources for the past 30 years in the tri-county area. This week we talked to Carolyn Smith, the Marketing Coordinator of The Promise Resource Center, and learned a little more about what the organization does for the community.
Q: Tell us about your organization (who you serve, what you do, etc.)
The Promise Resource Center is dedicated to serving those who care for children in Southern Maryland by equipping them with knowledge and tools to better provide care for the ones they love. Through the family support services we provide, including supervised visitation, co-parenting coaching, parenting skills training and behavior intervention, we are able to serve local families who are in desperate need of support.
Q: What is your favorite “moment” (example of how your organization helped)?
The best moments are when a client we are helping “gets it”— this may be when a parent in our NOVO Parenting program successfully uses a technique we have suggested or when a child care provider implements a visual schedule we have helped them to create. We love these “aha” moments because it means that clients are understanding and recognizing the importance of what we are trying to teach them and we are positively affecting the lives of the families in our community.
Q: What is your biggest challenge?
Our biggest challenge is making families in Southern Maryland aware of the variety of services we provide. Many people may know one service or program we have, but do not take advantage of the several other programs and resources available to them. Those interested can visit thepromisecenter.org
for more information on our programs.
Q: Are there any upcoming events?
On August 25, 2018, The Promise Resource Center will be hosting our 3rd Annual Drive-In Movie Fundraiser at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds. In addition to the showing of the popular children’s movie, Despicable Me 3 on a 40’ theater-sized movie screen and drive-in style parking, our Drive-In Movie Event will also feature music, concessions, arts and crafts, exhibits by other local nonprofit agencies and many other pre-movie activities to create a truly memorable experience for our local families. Check out our newsletters to find upcoming events. Our events going on this summer are on the June/July newsletter
Q: How can people get involved with your organization?
Those interested in getting involved with The Promise Resource Center can do so in many capacities. Whether it be through volunteering, event promotion or by providing a monetary donation, support for our agency is a great way to show the Southern Maryland community that you care about the families that live here.
