FRIDAY FOCUS - The Lobby Coffee Bar & Café

Have you ever stopped by The Lobby Coffee Bar & Café in Calvert County? This unique Coffee Bar operates as a non-profit enterprise, supporting the missions of End Hunger in Calvert County, Honduras Compassion Partners and Chesapeake Church. Help support local organizations by stopping by for your next cup of coffee or join them for one of their many events! In this week’s Friday Focus, we had the pleasure of hearing from Nicholas Cartron, Lead Barista & Coffee Culture Manager at The Lobby, to learn more about the great ways they are contributing to our community.

Q: Tell us about your organization (who you serve, what you do, etc.)
The Lobby Coffee Bar & Cafe is a joint partnership between End Hunger in Calvert County (EHCC), Honduras Compassion Partners (HCP) and Chesapeake Church. We are a full-service coffee bar & restaurant open to the public that operates as a non-profit enterprise, supporting the missions of both EHCC & HCP. Our mission is to improve the lives of Calvert County residents and families in Honduras, as well as bringing people together in a safe, supportive community environment that serves excellence in all things, at all times.

Q: What is your favorite “moment” (example of how your organization helped)?
Some of our favorite moments at The Lobby have been fostering a sense of community by bringing our guests out of their living rooms and into one shared space. Everyday our guests meet new, friendly faces and learn about our Cause while forming the personal relationships that make our community strong.

Q: What is your biggest challenge?
Some of the biggest challenges that we have faced have been establishing and enhancing our outreach potential. We have been able to adapt to these challenges by developing partnerships with other local organizations and working together with them to meet our shared goals.

Q: Are there any upcoming events?
The Lobby hosts several free monthly events, including Live Music Performances, Local Art Shows, Coffee & Tea Workshops, Storytime & Arts and Crafts for children, Open Mic Nights, Game Nights and many more events. Upcoming Events include ‘Lobby Littles’ Storytime at 10:30-11:30 AM on Friday, October 19, Live Music featuring House Blend at 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, October 22, a Candy Apple Workshop featuring our own baker Carrie at 3:30-5:30 PM on Thursday, October 25, and a Holiday Tea Workshop at 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, November 5.

Q: How can people get involved with your organization?
People can get involved with the Lobby by visiting our coffee bar & cafe for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or by attending any of our events. In addition, we are always accepting food donations at The Lobby or at the nearby Chesapeake Cares Food Pantry.
